Fun at the Zoo

Labor Day was one of the first beautiful days in forever.  So what is a family to do.  Well go to the zoo of course!!  Nicholas loved being outside all day and Nora just loved showing her brother the zoo!  I loved baby Jenny, the newest addition to the zoo.  Just the cutest little giraffe ever, especially when she was sticking her tongue out at us!  Great day.

Momma's Broken Heart

Those babies sure know how to pull on your heart strings.  My Nora, hardly ever sick, some snotty noses and coughs but rarely any puke bugs.  Well, on Monday I got that dreaded call from daycare.  "Nora just threw up, you'll need to come get her." Ugh.  I am so not a good puke Mommy.  Daddy isn't answering his phone so I'm off.  After picking her up we were certain it was a 24 hour bug.  A visit to the bathroom and I pat her back and tell her it is okay (all along trying not to gag myself and fearing that I will catch whatever it is she has).  Then her temp began to rise.  Poor little baby...as big as she is, the minute she gets sick she becomes my little baby girl again.  That my friends is the ONLY benefit to having a sick baby...snuggles.  Her big brown eyes just looking up at me, wondering why I cannot fix it, why I cannot make it go away.  Then, while still in the bathroom after one of her bad spells, she says, "Mommy, I'm having a very bad day." Yes baby, you are.

It is terrible feeling so helpless.  And so my mind wanders.  This is just a puke bug (which ended up being strep), how do mommies and daddies do it when their babies have bigger sickies.  It just crushes me thinking that.  I am so lucky and blessed to have not one, but two healthy babies.  I then realize that I can handle a trip or two to the bathroom and it is OK if I catch what they have.  I guess it is just one of those rights of passage into mommyhood because over everything you need to remember those cuddles do help our babies start feeling a little better.
